Christmas Season

I love this time of year! The cold weather that requires big comfy sweaters, the bright lights, and all the delicious food! I love seeing my family, and the occasional snow... However, I could really do without the hyper-consumeristic mentality, which really turns into a "what am I going to get and what am I going to buy for everyone else" panic mode. It causes people to stress out, drive crazy (well, more crazy than they already do, rushing around to find "that perfect something" for someone that doesn't really need it), and well, forget that presents are only a small part of this wonderful holiday season.

Jesus says in Matthew 6:19-21, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where theives break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where theives do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

I think I'm going to rethink my Christmas list... my little list of things I just really really want... can I do without them in order to get my priorities right this Christmas? Has my list been influenced by the love Christ has given me? He gave up everything to come to this earth... maybe my focus should be on giving, and not on my wish list this year. Maybe I could do without gifts, since I have already been given everything I need through knowing Jesus and receiving eternal life? Maybe? Just some thoughts...
